Tips for surface preparation of lime products
Lime products are particularly suitable for mineral substrates such as lime or lime-cement plaster. These plasters do not require any special pre-treatment. They can be coated directly with all products from the AURO lime range, as they bond well with the substrate material of the same type.
The gypsum plasterboard, gypsum fiberboard and gypsum plaster often found today can also be used as a substrate for wall design with lime products if prepared correctly. In order to achieve an optimum result, we recommend bonding cellulose fleece, e.g. Variovlies ECO 150 from Erfurt. Applying the fleece also prevents cracking in the substrate, especially with drywall panels.
The fleece is bonded to the substrate with AURO Wall covering adhesive No. 391 .
Please note: If the gypsum plaster is new and completely untreated, it must first be pre-treated with AURO Deep penetrating primer No. 301. This is not necessary for gypsum plasterboards and gypsum fiberboards. The fleece is placed in the freshly applied adhesive and pressed down firmly with a plastic spatula or a wallpaper rubber roller.
For larger areas, individual strips are not glued together but overlapped by approx. 2 cm. Then use a cutter knife to make a so-called double cut – through the overlap – and remove the resulting
fleece residue or fleece strips. The seam area is pressed down again firmly and, if necessary, pasted over again beforehand. This ensures that the individual strips sit perfectly next to each other.
The fleece must be completely dry before further processing. This is the case after approx. 24 hours, depending on the adhesive application thickness, ambient temperature, etc.
The substrate prepared in this way can then be further treated with all products from the AURO lime range.
In the case of brush-on or roller products such as Professional Lime Paint No. 344, Professional Fine Lime Plaster No. 345 or Colored Lime Paint No. 350, dilution of the first coat is recommended due to the strong absorbency of the fleece. Approx. 10-20% water should be added here.
Filler products such as Professional Lime Plaster No. 347 or Professional Lime Filler No. 342 can be applied directly to the fleece without further ado.
