Tips for oiling and waxing

Processing

Ensure good ventilation during application and do not leave any covers on the floor, as these will hinder the curing of the coating.

Deeper areas or scratches in wooden substrates can be evened out by removing the coating in these areas down to the raw wood.

Then apply hot water (e.g. with a cloth) and leave to soak in, causing the wood to swell. These areas can then be sanded down and re-treated.

ATTENTION!!! Used cleaning cloths can self-ignite due to the content of drying oils, so always spread them out individually to dry or store them tightly closed in a metal container.

Dried product residues can be composted or disposed of with household waste, empty cans can be recycled.

Good to know

Do not use cleaning materials made of micro, active or other synthetic fibers. These may act like sandpaper and destroy the oil and wax surface.

In order to minimize tension, joint formation or bulging of wooden floors, a uniform room climate (approx. 20 °C room temperature / 50-60 % humidity) should be ensured all year round.

The perfect pre-sanding for floors

Every floor, whether old or new, needs a thorough sanding before treatment. The necessary equipment, including instructions, is available from special rental companies and is easy to use with a little practice.

Protect your health during all work with the noise and dust protection devices provided!

Step by step instructions

1.

Drive in protruding nails with a countersink before sanding.

2.

Then start with the roller sander and, depending on the floor condition (old paint, adhesive residue, etc.), with more or less coarse sandpaper. Use the edge sander to sand off any remaining areas.

3.

Repeat the sanding process with increasingly finer paper. Change to a single-disc sanding machine from grit size 100. Continue sanding until at least 120 grit. Always vacuum the dust thoroughly afterwards.

4.

The preparation of your floor is now complete. However, intermediate sanding is still required for further treatment. Now you have the choice between oiling, waxing, varnishing or simply lye and soap.

Which is the right tool cleaner?

When working with PurSolid and Classic products, we recommend cleaning tools with AURO Thinner No. 191. Tools used when working with Aqua products are best washed out with Plant Soap No. 411 and water.

What do you use to clean oiled and waxed surfaces?

Oil and wax-treated surfaces require regular care. To refresh worn areas, reapply the wax or oil last used during treatment.

Maintenance oil or maintenance wax from AURO offers you a simple option.

First clean the surface with appropriate products. Then apply the maintenance oil/care wax to a cloth or sponge moistened with water and then spread sparingly and evenly. After approx. 10 minutes, you can now polish the surface or rub in the product. After approx. 24 hours, the surface can be treated with a further application of the care product if required.
